Description

Alright so this is what I did for the cover of Ice Wind 3 by Hotupub http://www.hotupub.com and (c) to them. I was told that it's the last one in the series.. probably due to some inside politics (rather than the quality of my covers, I hope!). Which is a shame, I enjoyed working on these paintings.

This boy is the main character in the series, the 16-year-old shepherd boy who wants to become a conjurer. I didn't intentionally make him have that all-powerfull look I figured it was the only angle where I could show his face and him looking at the phoenix in the sky at the same time. He is actually described in the book as a physically slight boy whom everyone makes fun of in the village.

Nice, ofcourse.:)
But not without crits: The head seems off in perspective, I think it's because of the position of his distant eye, the direction of his nose and the jawline. Also; The colors of the shirt are so monochromatic, that his upper body appears flat. This nullifys the effect of the perspective.

Wonderful work Linda ;) I remember your early stuff from back at the EK forums, you've developed a wonderful style, congrats :)

I think you have portrayed him as 'slight' quite well, which, given the angle is probably really hard to pull off. I love the grass, its very summer breezy! I hate drawing from this perspective so well done.

Interesting and good style. Liked the background. Character looks cool, but some of clothes folds looks unnatural as for me. +7/10 anyway!

Thanks for the comments everyone. I don't think you could see his feet though, haha. Not only are they covered by the grass... I didn't paint them anyway ;)

ARTOONATOR: hmmm... I think the nose might be a little off. The colour of his shirt, I was going for a very brightly lit daylight look, maybe I didn't pull it off so well.

Brasileiro: did you mean the phoenix is ugly because it has bad anatomy, or the boy has bad anatomy?
Andy--Jones: thanks! I'm glad he looks like a "small" boy even from this angle. :)
