Description

My first time painting a dark skintone--and so much of it, too! This is Lilith the dark elf, I'm told she's BAD. I tried to loosen up a bit with my brushstrokes.

I realize there must be a million anatomical mistakes, but I really really tried, plus it's already sent to the publisher. Just so you know. ;)

heya peachy!

this is a great piece! I like the details on the scepter and the water dripping from the background. The hair is flowing really dynamic. Great lighting.

Max points!

God I love seeing new stuff from you. The lighting is amazing, and i don't think there anything majorly wrong with the anatomy, maybe hip too litle, but hey, maybe she has narrow hips. However, I think the skin is looking very monochromatic, maybe some shifts of color here and there...cheeks, thighs.....Anyways, amazing job!

Good job, the anatomy is just fine, and your technique is impressive. I love purple and blue undertones on skin. :)
The only thing that seems strange to me is the fact, that her face is one of a very young child (small chin, bigger forehead etc) and the body of a full grown woman.

great... I like the shades of color, and yes she doesn't seens much human in anatomy... But she is not human anyway. I think it suited pretty well.
Amazing!

wow~!!! she is a charm....i din see any anatomy mistake.... if i were to comment, i would say her abdoman part skin is rougher compare to her face and other places.

maybe the staff can be exagerated more, like..change the angle abit, instead of pointing directly to the front, u can change it to sideways alittle bit. that way, we can see the perspective clearer.

overall, i like the lighting. and the skin tone is gorgeous~!! ^^

i notice something on the leg. her bottom left leg seems chopped off. maybe a hint of shadow will help.

hope this helps. ^^

Girl, you rock at those fantasy paintings. I love it.
Only crit: The waste is too small compared to the rest of the body.

Do something with that 'sketch2' you added. It's great.

Avatar BlacKeri

 03/22/05 @851

Wow, awesome work Linda! The color choices are wonderful, the technique is brilliant!
I have two things to crit though: First is her face which bugs me a bit, it looks too.. "anime-ish", like the features aren't realistic enough in comparison to the realism of her body shading etc.
Second are the parts of her.. armour? on the forearms... I kind of can't specify what they are, what they are made out of etc, but it's just nitpicking really.

I totally love soem small elements like the cape, the cape-holder-armour thing around her neck as well a that little copper? ring which holds that belt she has around her hips. totally lovely.
And that strong light adds to the glory of the picture. this is my definite favourite of yours. Wonderful :)

Avatar ultraviolet

 03/22/05 @854

Now that's what I call amazing lighting... the movement of her hair and the pose really make this a dynamic piece. Well done and respect as always :)

Just spectacular!!!!! I agree the hip is a tad slim but WOW WOW WOW!!!!!!!!!!
If I was able to give a higher rating I would darling.
I enjoyed taking a peek at the step by step process. Gives me a few ideas on how to finish hand painting a portrait I started and kind of stopped.
Thanks so much for not only sharing your tallent but how you came about making such a striking picture!
The details in her face are what grab me the most. I was delighted to see the transformation in your directory folder.
Seccond, the action and pose over all are just fabu!
Third, the way you were able to manipulate the darker tones with the amazing highlites. This by far is ace work.
I also must mention that the background just brings it all together for who you describe her to be. It is perfect.
Don't change a thing!
I will be picking up that next issue of Dragon Master 9 for sure to add to the wall of inspiration. WOW!
BTW, I really enjoy your work. I look forward to many more in the future.

thienbao: I know her hips are quite narrow, I like them this way with this particular character :)
breathing2004: yes, her expression is supposed to be "angry and perverse"
Aneley: haha, maybe her face looks a little *too* young, but past experience have taught me to better draw a younger face than to draw an older face, and have the client saying she looks way too old!
shadowlord: hmm, I'll take that as a compliment ;)
matsuru: yeah I could have drawn the staff with some more twists and turns, I swear I was planning to but then it turned out kinda stright. And I was too lazy to change it.
shyamshriram: ahahaha, touche ;)
SailorDidi: some are way off ^^;
ARTOONATOR: The waste? :p Quite a few people said they liked the other sketch too, I honestly thought the client would choose that one but he went for this one. *shrugs*
BlacKeri: I did intentionally make her face look young, maybe it's the pointy shape that's giving the anime vibe? The triangular face shape is associated with evilness... I think... and that was the basis for that. Those arm things, to be honest, I have no idea. :p
ultraviolet: "dynamic" isn't what people would usually say about my work, I'm glad this one has a bit more movement. :)
Astarte66: thanks ^^ that must have taken you a while to type.

The rest of you also who commented/voted, thank you so much! :)

This is fantastic... I'm envious of your use of color here, extremely well done!

I'll also admit that I'm a HUGE fan of the MMOG "Lineage 2" and she looks like she just walked out of the game... The dark elves in it have a similar aesthetic.

I'm not seeing the "Millions of anatomical errors" you mentioned. It looks really good to me, especially the subtle musculature of the abdomen. The only (small) thing I noticed was that the staff arm does look a wee bit off; as if the hand should be at a different angle in relation to the arm...

Eh, don't listen to me though. You've got more talent in your little finger than I've got in my whole body.

Full marks, looking forward to more! :)

Avatar Yumeji

 03/23/05 @286

Wow, that looks great.

Unfortunately, I can't provide you any criticism because (A) I lack the experience/knowledge & (B) realism portraits shouldn't all consist of the same body measurements. Everyone is different. Some people are born with a 22 inch waist with a 36 inch bust, others may be the opposite.

I do agree with BlacKeri in that I can't really distinguish what material the arm armour is made of. It almost seems as if it penetrates & disappears into her right wrist.

Again, great work.

I purposely avoided reading the other crits Linda (can I call you that? :p ) so bear with me if I repeat.

The definition of the rib cage is a bit chisled/harsh and her cape although I imagine it is supposed to be flapping in the underground breeze...looks a little stiff. I can't tell if it is going to the side....or in front, about to wrap around her...I figure the latter since it has a highlight as well, but if that were the case...why does she have so much highlight on her, and would her highlight give some ambient light to the underside of the cape?

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Sorry....sounds nitpicky, but besides the cape, and the ribs...this is one of my favorites of yours (in terms of execution) You always do well in establishing an environment that is interactive with the character, and again you really pushed the contrast as you did with your 'Empress' piece.

Stunning .. definetly your best artwork yet ..

I really the darkened skintone .. i could not find any anatomical issues except that the hair doesn't look quite attached on her scalp .. but i still love it anyways as it gives a dynamic feeling to this piece .. there is something with her face that is quite catchy and appealing too

Very nice work...most impresssive. THe only thing I could begin to quibble about is the hair, like someone else said...but only slightly. I think the way to correct it would have been simply to add a little more hair flowing from the lower backside of her head, so it looks more attached...beyond that, I don't see any problems. What medium did you use on this?

Awesome - the air and pose are magnificent. Just one critique, the hips do not seem quite right. Maybe sure is a small figure and maybe I just like those Latin curvy bodies :). Maybe the sash is set wrong. Just the juxta of the hip area does not flow for me. Other than that I love fantasy and this is a very nice piece A+

Mhh I must disagree with all the opinion :p IMHO this is not your best work for a few very subjective reasons : the figure of Lilith to me is special, and my vision of her is very different from yours, which is more "fantasy" and less "diabolic". I don't like her eyebrows, they are too long for me, too black and her face skin is too stretched out, it needs more wrinkles between the eyebrows. She seems more like an evil summoner or an evil priestess, not really the bride of Lucifer :p And then,I don't like her raised hand and the shape of her face. That's all.
I like her hair, her eyes, her body (even the skintone looks a bit strange to me, but if I look at it with attention, I like it )and her culottes X)
....at the end, the only thing I really dislike is her face, if i look only at the body I like it

I think the hand that's raised looks awkward, like the fingers are too small. But, other than that? I don't see any other anatomical mistakes, other than what was already mentioned. ~_^ Very well done. It's very smooth, and has a mysterious dark feel to it. Awesome! +7/7

Avatar ElenaVanin

 01/25/06 @558

Aehm, anatomical mistakes? I wish I could do always as "many" anatomical mistake as you did here, I think her body is really beautiful and perfect. There's something a bit strange in her hand, but it could be the perspective.

The only detail that I'm not completely convinced with, is the look of her face, which seems a bit doll-like, if you know what I mean.

Great light, great figure, I think this is a very good work!
